December 1, 2018: Postdoctoral Position in extragalactic astronomy:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in extragalactic astronomy. The successful applicant with work will Prof. Yara Jaffé on the effect of environment on the evolution of galaxies. The project, will be carried out in close contact with the international GASP team (Gas Stripping Phenomena in galaxies with MUSE, http://web.oapd.inaf.it/gasp/; mainly based at INAF-Padova and the Univ. of Birmingham), as well as the growing extragalactic group at IFA-UV.
We seek a highly qualified and motivated postdoc to join the team. The applicant must hold a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with a background on extragalactic astronomy, and expertise in any of the following sub-fields: galaxies in clusters, large scale structure, ram-pressure stripping, AGN, galaxy classification, large surveys, and citizen science. The position, funded by ESO, will be for two years, with possibilities to apply for external grants (e.g., Fondecyt program, when applicable) to extend the stay.
IFA-UV provides a friendly and productive working environment at one of the most vibrant Chilean cities, Valparaiso, declared world heritage site by UNESCO. Our fast growing institute is composed by 23 professors, 12 postdocs, and 20 graduate students. While working at IFA-UV, the candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community with privileged access to 10% of the time on all astronomical observatories in Chile, including ESO(Paranal/La Silla), Gemini-South, Magellan, CTIO, ALMA, and APEX.
We encourage applications from proposers of all nationalities, underrepresented minorities, and women.
September 19, 2018: Postdoctoral Fellowships. Applications for sponsorship for a FONDECYT Postdoctoral Fellowship are open to all applicants with a PhD in physics or astronomy obtained on or after the 1st of January 2015 (deadline to apply: October 17th 2018). To apply for sponsorship, applicants should send their CV, a short proposed research program and the names and contact information of three referees to the staff member with whom they would like to work (information about the academic group can be found here).
