Welcome to the First International Meeting of Astrostatistics in Valparaíso (IMAV) Web site. 

The First IMAV will be held May 6 - 10, 2013, at Casa Central of the P. Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, "Salón Quinto Centenario", Valparaíso, Chile.

Mathematics and statistics as well as computational algorithms are tools commonly used by astronomers and cosmologists, that every day they need more and improved methods to obtain information from their data.

Moreover the next installation of new (near future) telescopes such as ALMA, LSST, GMT and E-ELT and the massive influx of astronomical data from them will demand new methodologies and tools.

The scientific interest of this IMAV 2013 in Valparaiso is to promote research in Astrostatistics in Chile and around the world, to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and to disseminate the latest scientific research in the area.
The workshop will bring together an important group of researchers from several Universities and research center.

The IMAV 2013 will be held in the Hall 5th Centenario of the Pontificia Catolica Universidad de Valparaíso between May 6 and May 10. In the morning, lectures will be presented by different researchers in the area (see "Invited Speakers" below), and in the afternoon, three courses will be given.

The First IMAV is free but registration is required (see Section "Register").
