Dr. Eduardo Ibar, professor and investigator of the Instituto de Física y Astronomía of the Universidad de Valparaíso (UV), worked together with two other international consortiums in elaborating the most complete astronomical catalogue of the hidden Universe, with detailed information about nearby and far away galaxies, some so old they can tell us the story of the Universe since a short while after its birth. The consortiums that participated in the putting together this great legacy are the HerMES (Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey) and the H-ATLAS (Herschel Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey). The first of these has already published the results in the following webpage http://hedam.lam.fr/HerMES/, while the second has done so in http://www.h-atlas.org/, including publications in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The astronomer, who was an important part in the production of the images, specially those taken with the PACS (The Photoconductor Array Camera and Spectrometer) instrument, explained that the Herschel Astronomical Observatory was sent into space on May 4, 2009 and for almost four years observed space in the infrared wave length. In words of Dr. Ibar, "The liberation of this data has an immense value in terms of astronomical legacy, as in the future anybody will be able to access the images taken by us. This is a great advance for astronomers that study distant galaxies, be they chilean or from abroad".
